Enemies to happiness

What is stopping you from making your life happy?  Here are some of the biggest reasons.

AVAILABLE NOW Rubber Stamp over a white background.

Availability – How often do you see adverts for things in the press like this sign? Or go shopping and see these signs?  Amazing aren’t they. They draw your attention to the exact thing the sales people want you to buy.  They make items seem better somehow because you assume that if it is available now it wasn’t available before so it is something newer and better than before.   WRONG! It could be something old or on sale because something better is coming soon and it was just out of stock.

We are all too eager to go for what is “available now” and not take the time to look for anything else, or what is best for us.  We settle for the option put in front of us. Availability is stopping you from getting the best and making you the happiest.  Always make the effort to get what’s best.

“Choices, options ,decisions abound.  Choose right, take the best option and decide well.” – Jaachynma N.E.Agu

ignorance-is-bliss

Ignorance – Everyone has heard that “Ignorance is bliss” This is exactly why we don’t try to improve our lives. We are too happy to accept our situation because we don’t know how to improve it or what other choices there are.  The trouble with this is that we aren’t fully “happy” with what we have, we just get on with it.  Say you are unhappy with your job, you need to learn about the good choices as well as the bad ones your scared of facing. Face your fears and find out.

“Ignorance is a temporary affliction, remedied only by asking the right questions.” – Colin Wright

Other People – When you are thinking of doing something different it is natural for you to see what other people think, so you ask the people around you for their advice.  This is great if all the people you talk to have made a change like that you, are experienced in your new interests or love you enough to encourage you to follow your dreams.  Unfortunately this is not always the case.  What do the people close to you do?  There is a chance they are your work mates.  If you are unhappy with your job, are they happy with theirs or scared to make a change themselves?  There is a good chance that, like in the graphic above, they may think that your change is a bad idea and try and get you to stay.  Be wary, you need to surround yourself with those on your side, not theirs.

“Life is too short to waste time waiting for other people’s approval on how to live it” – Dr Steve Maraboli

passive-aggressive

Passivity –  Is this you in the picture?  Just sitting there accepting your situation and screaming on the inside?  Yes?  Why? It is very easy to just ” get on with it” to just “go with the flow” It only a job and “it pays the bills”. Do these sound familiar? Many people apply these sort of answers to everything that is bad in their lives.  There is a good chance that these parts of your life are actually BIG parts of your life and now you are wasting your life going quietly mad.

Momentum – Have you ever done something to “tide you over” till something better comes along and then found it take over your life. Or a part time job becomes full time and you start thinking that now you are getting good at it you might as well carry on.  You get stuck in a rut and just stay where you are rather than make an effort and carry on your original path to your dreams.  It’s like the red ball is stuck and you are forever waiting for it to give you a push.

Remember, you can make a snowman by starting with one snowflake and building on it to make a small snowball. Then one small push down a hill will make it grow with no effort at all.  It doesn’t take a lot of effort to start but once you start in the right direction, the rest could be easy. Find the right direction and start.

I hope these help, I based it on a post by Jessica Hagy in Forbes and a few other articles and books I have read about this.
